- Event: Conference The Mineral Arctic: Imagination, Communication and Practices (8–10 October 2025)
This talk is part of a multidisciplinary program dedicated to the imaginaries, communications, and practices surrounding Arctic minerals—stones and rocks considered both as material and as concept. Echoing the work of Jean Malaurie, the presentation examines how minerals shape representations, knowledge systems, economies, and power relations from Antiquity to the “long nineteenth century.” It brings Indigenous and European perspectives into dialogue, addressing knowledge transmission, cultural negotiation, colonial territorial formation, artistic and scientific practices, and the co-production of knowledge.
