The State of Research on Mining in Northern Quebec and Ontario
On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, researchers, Indigenous leaders, and institutional partners gathered in Toronto for a full-day event dedicated to ongoing research on mining in Northern Quebec and Northern Ontario.
This event provided an opportunity to learn more about who was currently working on mining-related issues in these regions and which projects were underway. Discussions highlighted community-based research approaches, Indigenous perspectives, and current initiatives addressing key environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges associated with mining activities.
The program featured student presentations, regional roundtables on Northern Quebec (including Strange Lake) and Northern Ontario (Ring of Fire), as well as discussions on future research directions and upcoming grant initiatives.
